Ongoing project
earthenware clay, vintage tables
Material is central in human lives. In an endless chain of transformations, materials are turned into food, clothes, buildings and a multitude of things. Many materials have become abstract to us, combinations of materials become new materials. Today one must be an expert to recognize quality, and a researcher to detect how and where things are made and to what cost - human, ecological and economical.
In this project I want to point out a single material - clay, as a historical base for wealth and civilisation. Through clay I can say something about the complex relation between the poor and the rich, and thereby touch a part of history that formed our culture
