Inspired by Mother of pearl as a metaphor, I try to think around humans relation to the planet and the planets relation to us. Mother of pearl is a result of an irritation inside the pearl clam. At the same time, pearls are desirable and beautiful objects to humans.
The start of the pearl is often a small grain of sand/soil/clay, a material that is the dominant voice in this exhibition. I find it fascinating to think about how clay/soil as material is the foundation and base for so many things: from being the irritating grain in the pearl clam to the foundation for our existence. Mother of pearl indeed!
A caravan of trees are hanging across the room. On the tree trunks words from Shakespeares´ the Tempes are tied like passengers. The words are Calibans, native to the island, a character who, like nature is neither good or bad, but an easy victim to exploit.
